On Saturday July 23 some 20 members of the Norwich Circle of the Catenian Association, together with several of their family members and friends, attended the Newmarket races.

The day out was organised by John and Jennifer Flynn whose daughter, Rachel, is married to the former jockey and now leading trainer Rae Guest.

The day out began with a concise talk about the breeding and training of racehorses delivered by Rachel, who is herself an amateur jockey.

The talk was followed by a tour of the stables conducted by Rachel who gave the background stories of the 20 or so horses stabled there.

Then the group was treated to a champagne reception with nibbles courtesy of John, Jennifer and Rachel. Each of the guests were then given a list of the likely winners of the day’s races, after which the party was escorted to the Premier Enclosure where they placed their bets as the meeting got under way.

Despite the list of predicted winners not exactly matching the quality of the rest of the day’s entertainment, it was an excellent outing.
