A thanksgiving Mass marking 11 years of service as a priest by Fr Chris Boles in Sacred Heart parish, Edinburgh, was celebrated on Sunday, July 31.

Concelebrating with him was the present parish priest of Sacred Heart, Fr James Crampsey SJ, who will assume responsibility as superior on the departure of Fr Boles; with Fr Peter Scally SJ, the present assistant priest, being appointed as parish priest, in succession to Fr Crampsey.

Cardinal Keith O’Brien, who ordained Fr Boles to the priesthood in September 1999 and who was present when Fr Boles took his solemn vows as a member of the Society of Jesus in 2008, paid tribute to him at the end of Mass.

Cardinal O’Brien said that it was not with any regret that he was saying farewell to Fr Boles but with sincere thanks for all that he had accomplished in the past.

The cardinal wished him well for the years which lay ahead. The cardinal told the congregation: “What you give to a friend is no loss!”

Following the Mass Fr Boles received the thanks of the congregation as they were leaving the church. They adjourned for a buffet at the Lauriston Jesuit Centre.

Hi There editors – you need to change the picture caption. It’s the Cardinal giving the homily.
