Some 4,000 young people from Britain attended World Youth Day in Spain last week.
They came from dioceses across England, Wales and Scotland, often in the company of their diocesan bishops.
Religious orders also took part in the occasion. Forty-one young people attended the week-long event with eight Dominicans from Scotland and England.
Some pilgrims wandered around Madrid draped in union flags and the flag of England and were present in large numbers at a Mass celebrated by Cardinal George Pell of Sydney at the Palacio de Deportes of Madrid.
More than 120 young people from the Diocese of Arundel and Brighton attended the event. Their bishop, Bishop Kieran Conry, led one of the catechetical sessions.
The Diocese of Leeds took 80 pilgrims to the event, accompanied by Bishop Arthur Roche.
Many young pilgrims are now planning their travel to the next World Youth Day, which will take place in Rio de Janeiro in 2013.
