On Tuesday December 6 Jenny Bianco, the Deputy Lieutenant of Southwark, attended the annual carol service at the Regimental Headquarters of 256 (City of London) Field Hospital (Volunteers) in Walworth.

The celebration was opened by a welcome speech from the Commanding Officer, Colonel Gerry McBride Late RAMC, followed by a service conducted by Fr Michael Dunne, the unit padre. Prayers were said for all Unit members currently on operations in Afghanistan.

It was a very emotional ceremony made unique by the astonishing voices of the choir Cantores Missae who, under their director Charles Finch, performed among the others a stirring and intense “The Virgin’s Cradle Song” by Edmund Rubbra.

The choir was also accompanied with music provided by the High Society Band.

At the end of the service an unexpected Santa appeared and distributed numerous Christmas gifts for all the children present.
