Irish Catholic Women Poll. The study and some of the comments from the ‘listening sessions’ suggest a push for women’s ordination (citing the permanent Diaconate as “excluding women from playing a ‘real’ role…”). Also the conclusion that had women been more in evidence in ecclesiastical circles the abuse would have been handled differently smacks of ‘Monday morning quarterbacking’. Women religious have been responsible for abuse also and as reportedly more abuse occurs in homes than anywhere else, one has to ask: where were the mothers in those homes? It’s easy to claim wisdom after the fact.
