Medjugorje is generating what the Devil loves most: disobedience

St Bernadette lived a holy and humble life. I don’t think the same can be said for the Medjugorje seers

Today is the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes. I have been to Lourdes on several occasions, largely drawn by the personality of St Bernadette herself. Being chosen by Our Lady as her messenger did not make Bernadette holy; it was how she lived her life afterwards, especially during the 13 years she spent at the convent in Nevers: often in pain, unable to take part in the regular life of the community because of her ill-health, lonely, isolated and constantly belittled by the mistress of novices, she nevertheless bore her crosses with exemplary patience.

St Bernadette has been on my mind ever since I got sent a YouTube film recently, advertising Medjugorje. J Edgar Hoover once said that the only certainties in life were death and taxes. I would add a third: controversy over Medjugorje. It seems that Catholics today are divided into two camps: you are either “for” Medjugorje or “against”. This, needless to say, has led to much unseemly in-fighting within the Church.

What annoyed me about the YouTube presentation (apart from the muzak and the hushed and reverential voice of the narrator) was its blatant way of referring to the alleged apparition as “Our Lady”, as if this were a foregone conclusion. It isn’t. I was further nettled by statements seeming to show that the late pope, John Paul II, as well as Mother Teresa, both “believed” in it, as if to demonstrate that the apparitions must be true, simply because of the witness of these two holy heavyweights.

I am not an expert on the subject of these alleged apparitions. But I have read enough of St John of the Cross to know what he means by “spiritual gluttony” in my encounters over the years with adherents of the place. One lady told me excitedly of her rosary turning to gold; another had been overwhelmed by watching the sun dance; a third became very angry very quickly when I expressed a little caution in my response to her assertion that Medjugorje only brought forth good fruits.

My own instinct is to think that Our Lady has not appeared thousands of times to the supposed seers, or given them dozens of different “secrets”. Nor do the seers themselves live lives like St Bernadette. Of course, you don’t have to be a saint to see Our Lady, as I said above; but there seems to be nothing humble, holy or hidden about the later lives of the Medjugorje “seers”.

Actually, what I think as a private person, or what the late pope wrote in a private letter to two friends who had sent him literature about Medjugorje, or indeed what the saintly Mother Teresa is said to have said, is neither here nor there; it is what the Church thinks that matters. What the Church thinks about alleged apparitions is left to the local Ordinary to investigate and pronounce.

Four years after the Lourdes apparitions of 1858, and after a lengthy investigation, the local bishop pronounced them authentic. In the case of Medjugorje, both Bishop Zanic of Mostar and his successor, Bishop Peric, fully investigated the phenomenon and decided that nothing supernatural was taking place. So why are bandwagons of pilgrims still going there? The answer probably lies in Understanding Medjugorje: Heavenly Visions or Religious Illusion by Donal Foley, available from Theotokos Books. Foley has his vociferous detractors, naturally enough, but he has done his homework and reading his book reinforced my own sceptical instincts. In particular, the scandalous behaviour he describes of some of the Franciscans closely associated with the place, seems shocking: Fr Slavko Barbaric, who died in 2000 and who I was told by one of the faithful at the time “has been taken by Our Lady straight to heaven”, had actually had his faculties for hearing confession withdrawn by Bishop Peric several months before his death; Fr Zovko, who was refused permission to celebrate Mass in Washington in 2002, had had his faculties also revoked; worst of all, Fr Tomislav Vlasic, deeply involved in the early years of Medjugorje, was laicised and dismissed from the Franciscan order very recently, in July 2009, for various misdemeanours including some against the Sixth Commandment.

Bishop Peric has spoken of other problems, apart from disobedient Franciscans: religious communities established without diocesan permission and ecclesiastical buildings erected without approval. What is going on? A sound Canadian priest once said to me, when I asked him about the “good fruits” of Medjugorje: “The Devil doesn’t mind a few thousand people becoming better Catholics after going there if, as a result, he’s got millions of Catholics being disobedient to the authority of the Church.”

Obedience is the issue. It’s what the Devil (you can’t get away from him – and my thanks to “paulpriest”, who pointed out at length to me after my last blog how very busy Old Nick is behind the scenes today) hates like poison. You can imagine Screwtape rubbing his hands with glee. St Bernadette was once asked what she feared most; her reply was: “Bad Catholics”.

More sensationalism and emotionalism that is suppose to be faith but who’s sincerity is very questionable !!!!!

  • Fr Pol

Thank you for this article. Unfortunately, in my experience as a priest, some of the most divisive people in my parishes have been fanatics about Medjugorje. It seems to appeal to those who suffer from what an old seminary professor of mine used to refer to as “the theology of the nervous system”!

Well said Father. Fanatics. Years ago, I had a letter published in a Catholic paper, mildly pointing out some of the anomalies/difficulties with Medj, and some person tracked me down and phoned me at 8am in the morning – getting me out of bed to rant at me about it! Unbelievable!

Medjugorje is satanic operation.Mgr Andrea Gemma the only bishop who is exorcist in the world said it’s absolutely satanic. He is in Isernia-Venafro in Italy and he is one that is reflecting the true position of the catholic church.Anybody who have a bit judgement will see just in 30 second that those supposed peoples that have the visions are liers just by checking the way they stand .Never the holy Mary would appear so many times to say those messages that just are bringing false statements like all religions are equal for Jesus what is absolutely false all this will just make in a future so near church to have peoples who will believe in things like that all confessions are true .The result will be that those who are believing this will believe too that there is no real sins or so few like some protestants said in past by the tongue of this heretic Martin Luther so lot of peoples will not confess to priest or will not regret sins so they will not be saved at death and will go in hell. Lot of money those persons (the supposely persons that see the gospa) have made with this treachery and the style of living they have should be enough to make peoples ignore this superchery but the fact that many peoples are so blind proove that this superchery really work well .They dont have humility like those peoples that saw Mary at Fatima and Lourdes and they proclaim that the franciscans that disobeied the church are the good one…This will in future make happen a kind of church that will proclaim to be the church of the holy spirit and is supported by the charismatic church who claim to have power from the holy spirit enlight them…One day there will be no sins and every confessions protestants, muslims, boudhists will be putted in this false church as a melting pot in the supposely fact that they are all equal in the eyes of Jesus and there will be no need then to be catholic and to have the sacrements like the sacrement of penitense and the last sacrement. Then a reign of lies will be taken for the church of God.

  • luke

Medjugorje a work from satan, he is surely happy right now cause those false apparitions will bring a lot of discredit on the catholic faith and will be the cause of damnation of many souls .

  • Brad

And yet Matt 12:30 & Luke 11:23. So leave the cherry picking to the cherry pickers, my clever Pete.

  • Brad

Even if — even if — Medjugorje is completely false and a trick of the enemy, our Lady’s primacy is assured. At her immaculate conception, her fiat, and the resurrection of her Son, her primacy over the serpent under her heel was sealed and fulfilled in objective reality. Past tense, full stop. He is not smarter than she nor superior in any way. She is fully capable of using his deceptions in her own way to produce good. She is the silver lining.

The only things I know about these apparitions is they are lucrative for an otherwise broke nation and tied to Bill Clinton’s war there. Is this true?

I also know that I was given a flier the other day while in church from a very obedient, faithful woman. A seer was coming to my nearby city and the flier promised that the paid spectators would “be present with Marija during her apparition” on stage. My sensus fidelium took this to be a very bold promise. Too Ringling Brothers for me.

That said, again, for any evils and disobedience that might be coming from this place, the flip-side is a renewed attention and thus love for our Lady. And that — she — is desperately needed medicine.

Dear Francis! I am so pleased that you have written exactly my sentiments on this matter. I haven’t ever heard it said better than the way you have written it however. You sound like a Traditional Catholic though. I go to Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel in Monroe, Ct. Please see my website (spencercolgan.com) and let me send you a Green Scapular! Way to go!!!

francis phillips needs to go to medugorje. i went and it changed. his dismissal of the experiences of others is arrogant. no wonder God is so angry.

  • Anonymous

Au contraire. Your dismissal of the legitimate authority of the local Ordinary and the Bishops’ Conference is arrogant. God cannot be ‘angry’ just because we don’t accept alleged apparitions. A true Faith is not based on alleged signs and wonders.

‘Pilgrims flock to Medjugorje while Vatican studies alleged apparitions’: ‘ ………. For years the local bishop, Bishop Ratko Peric of Mostar-Duvno, has said he believes nothing supernatural is happening in Medjugorje. In an e-mail to Catholic News Service in late February, he said he would no longer comment about what is happening in Medjugorje out of respect for the Vatican commission.
While the Vatican has said dioceses should not organize official pilgrimages to Medjugorje, it has said Catholics are free to visit the town and pray there, and that the Diocese of Mostar-Duvno and the Franciscans should organize pastoral care for them.’

I watched the first ten seconds – that was quite enough for me. She has no legitimate authority in the discernment of Medjugorje whatsoever.

It’s amazing how people like you will quote news reports ad infinitum (and such news services have no legitimate authority on the issue of discernment regarding Medjugorje) but to date you have ignored the local Ordinary and the Bishops’ Conference. Let’s see if the Vatican gives a negative declaration, whether you will ignore that as well. Maybe you will be like the person in the Catholic News Service report you refer to, who was quoted as saying “”Whether the Vatican says it’s true or not really doesn’t matter. What counts is what you believe inside, and I believe people need this.” Time will tell . . .

Its too bad for the naysayers. I feel sorry for them. Their logic is faulty. Bishop Zanic for instance. He said the children were telling the truth. Then he changed his mind. This is unacceptable. Bishop Peric does not believe in the apparitions at Lourdes. No wonder the Vatican took over. So you see the local bishop’s were flawed. The good news is we have the sacraments and the church to get us to Heaven even if you believer Medjugorje is a fraud as Rick Salbato, Unity Publishing believes. Sorry Rick Medjugorje is a great asset to getting into heaven with directions from our mother. There is no disobedience. The seers are doing as they are told. For the local bishop to prevent Father Slavko Barbaric from hearing confessions (if that is true) is a travesty that serves no purpose but revenge. Think about it. You want proof that Medjugorje is real, look at the picture of Jakov when he was 10 years old at the communion rail looking up at Mary. Getting a 10 year old to pray 3 hours is also a sign of validity. The best thing to do is follow the messages from Our Lady and stop griping. I have never been there but Medjugorje came to me. I am blessed by Medjugorje and its mission to save souls. The message from Mary is not 5 things, its one thing. Pray.

Thanks be ot God and Jesus and Mary I found the apparitions to be true. What an awesome gift.

    love to all,

The comment: “In the case of Medjugorje, both Bishop Zanic of Mostar and his successor, Bishop Peric, fully investigated the phenomenon and decided that nothing supernatural was taking place.” is not fully true. The conclusion reached was that ‘It cannot be shown that anything of a supernatural nature is taking place.’ Meaning that it could not be established. Bishop Zanic of Mostar was responsible for the original investigation but because of impropriety in the investigation his findings were thrown out by Cardinal Ratzinger (the present Pope) and the brief was passed to the bishops of Yugoslavia, later the bishops of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The case in still being investigated by the Vatican. The only liaised priest was in Medjugorje for just two years and most of this report involves false or misleading information. Fr Tomislav Vlasic was not “defrocked” as this report suggests. It was actually Fr. Vlasic who REQUESTED that he be liaised and the Vatican agreed. Fr. Vlasic was NEVER the head of the parish in Medjugorje. The author admits he knows little about Medjugorje and this is abundantly clear. The investigation of this phenomenon is still under way and it should be left to the Church to decided one way or another. Personally, I’ve been to Medjugorje, met the visionaries (seers) in their homes and I know from personal experience that claims about them are false. My faith is not dependant on whether or not they are seeing ‘Our Lady’ but I will say this: if they are seeing her, those who criticise Medjugorje despite the fact the Church is still investigating, run the risk of opposing heaven not just the Church. My faith lies with the Church Christ founded and the Gospel he gave us – I don’t need Medjugorje, I do need my Church and a commitment to the Gospel.

This article would be more fruitful if it didn’t throw stones and malign individuals. It has the feel of “personal vendetta” all over it.

The devil hates humility. The devil loves spiritual pride.

  • sandy

I believe that Mother Mary is appearing to the visionaries and that satans 100 year reign is allmost over and he is trying to break up the Catholic church. Before Jesus died, satan came to the garden and tried to tempt Him. I think this is something to think about. Sandy

One thing, although admittedly this was on top of other things (perhaps the last straw scenario fits), made me move from being very uncertain from the start in 1982 (I didn’t hear of this until then), to totally sure that the reported apparitions are either fiction, or diabolical in nature, (I lean to the former, actually). The one thing then – the report of a disturbance during a reported apparition when an Irish journalist quite shockingly spooked one of the supposed seers; I can’t recall what he did, he may have jumped in the way, or held a flame to the seers hand, but, no matter, he disrupted the apparition in some way. This caused the seer to react, startled. When asked to explain, the seer later said that unfortunately, Our Lady had dropped the infant Jesus, and she (the seer) was shocked and frightened for the infant Jesus. Why did this have a negative result on me? Well, I know time in Heaven does not exist in the way we know it, but, even taking into account Heaven’s mysteries, I know for sure that Our Lady, the Holy Mother of God, no longer has a baby to tend for. I do not mean this in any mocking, sneering way, do believe me on that, but, Our Lord died on the cross and ascended to Heaven when he was 33. Why then would his Blessed Mother still have a Babe-in-Arms? I can accept it in art, eg, Madonna and Child etc; I can even accept it in a form of a Heavenly sign, but not when supposedly in or during direct spiritual contact with Our Lady. That is the main point; a secondary supporting point, Our Lady would not drop anything in a human way anyway. So I’m sorry, but the sooner the Vatican rules on this the better; sadly for those who still believe in the apparitions in Medjugorge, when they do, they will be left with great mental and spiritual conflict. But, although I also see this used rather cynically outside of the intended context, they can take great comfort from the great Cardinal’s words on those who believe something to have been blessed when it is / was not, and are therefore blessed themselves. I see this as the Father taking back the Victory the dark one thinks he has. It’s like thinking you’re on the coach to Blackpool but is in fact Morecambe; there is a Funfair there too.

Open your hearts to the Holy Spirit, He who is our Counselor and ask for Truth. Since there is only ever ONE truth, and no confusion with God, just with Satan. Many who sincerely do this will know the TRUTH of Medjugoie in their hearts. God please, bless Your Church and help us to be ONE as you are ONE as the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Help us to move our egos out of the way and be OPEN to the Truth. Pray as Bernadette prayed and know God’s Truth. Amen.

It seems to me that the devil reaps a great deal out of sowing confusion, controversy and scepticism.  The voice that speaks to us from Medjugorje is quite clear – and simple: the world is in grave danger.  Hearts must turn back to God and do it soon.  This has always been Our Lady’s plea.  The visionaries simply pass on the messages.  You’d do well to listen to them but no one can force you.  Not even God himself would interfere with your right to choose the wrong way.  Don’t forget: there were people who met Christ face to face 2000 years ago and failed to believe that it could really happen in their time; in their town.  (Who do people say that I am – there were all kinds of daft answers to that.  I’m sure the disciples found it all very amusing).  Faith has never ‘made sense’.  It is not a matter for the intellect, but for the heart.  Trust – like little children is what we have to do.  As for ‘disobedient Franciscans’ remember that St Francis himself outraged many people by his radical way of life.  Fransiscans are brave; not disobedient.  Sometimes, simplicity is all that’s required.  It keeps the Church humble and close to the Truth.  It is for closed and hardened hearts that our Mother comes to us so be prepared to eat those bitter words of yours one day… or stop requiring proof, reason.  Be glad that Mirjana and her friends have been willing to be a voice in the world for God and allow God to change the world a little bit for the better through you.  God bless you.

“I am not an expert on the subject of these alleged apparitions.”

No, you are not. Nor am I. Nor anyone else here.

I too have read John of the Cross, Teresa of Avila, Therese of Lisieux, Edith Stein and others of the Carmelite and other traditions. Love them all.

What I ‘see’ here is a complete lack of the very thing of which you people accuse the ‘visionaries’ in Medjugorje – humility.   Not a shred of it ‘tween the lot of you. Shame !

I have been a victim/survivor of something that has really challenged the Catholic Church – clerical sexual abuse, and its over up.

And yes folks, they have tried to cover it up. I have documents to prove it.

I loved my faith as a child, and always had a very great devotion to the Mother of God. Given me by my grandmother, and then my mother. I would have completely abandonned the Catholic Church, and gladly seen it and all its ministers in the deepest pits of hell at times. I wanted every shred, every vestige of it out of my life forever.

But for that to happen I’d have had to leave Mary too. She who stood by the Cross as the sword of sorrow pierced that sweet soul on our behalf, with John and the ‘holy women’ – while the men ran away.

Just as they would today, some of ‘em.  I could in no way relate to a ‘male’ God – God as Father,’ or to Christ as ‘Son’ for years. I prayed to God, when I was able to pray to God again, after those years. It’s not a nice place to be – in the darkest places in your life, and you cannot do what all others do in their darkest hours, pray to God, ’cause you truly believe God hates you, does not want you, cannot be trusted, is, effectively – the ultimate ‘Abuser’. De Profundis clamo ad Te Domine. My God, My God, why have you forsaken me, take on real meaning.

I really should be dead. I don’t understand why I am not. Others I’ve known are – one a young priest, and a novice to the contemplative religious life.

I believe part of it was my always being able to look to Mary – hold to Mary as Mother, Sister, Friend, Protector – and relate to Jesus, IF He existed, which I was left doubting – through Her. When I fell into that cold fire, that dark despair, and did not want, could not seem to get up again – She helped me rise and keep going. Actually it was She who held me always and sent the help I needed when needed.

And recently again with all the revelations, endless reminders how bad it all was, is – in ways continues to be, ’cause of the ‘disobedience’ to God, of some of those in Rome, the hierarchy, I wanted to be rid of this thing called Catholicism.

I was going to Mass again over the last few years. But I found it so very, very hard to trust one word from the ‘men of God’ at all levels in the Church. Again, left wondering if the great beauty I saw in the Catholic Church, the faith I’d been raised with as a child, wanted to give my life to  - all if it; that it was all lies, deception. Even close friends who are priests/religious could not reach me.

I thought, as I had believed, “Mary is coming to a place in former Yugoslavia. I will get the answers from Her – there.”  I did not plan to go but was invited and off I went, in truth, not really expecting anything.

But, She is there. I am not going to talk about all that I experienced there, ‘cept to say that it’s like the ‘faith’ here is almost dead – whereas it’s like it permeates all life there – is alive. The peace – and yes’ the healing I began to receive there in the deepest cores of my being. Everyone has said I am not the same person, like the ‘old me’ has come back to life.

These lines from the poem, “Hound of Heaven,” by Francis Tompson kinda say it for me. The treasure, faith I was given as a child, young person – which I’d believed wholly destroyed, lost – leaving me in a spiritual wilderness, waste, for the best part of thirty years, was given back – yet back to a heart and spirit that had been sorely tested, tested ‘as through fire’.

I was NOT deceived in, or by Medjugorje.

I’d say to the person who speaks of our sister Bernadette of Lourdes, yes I know her well – that you know little of ‘holiness,’ and should not speak of something you know so little about, as though you were what you claim yourself not to be and the evidence of what you say would seem to affirm – you are not an authority.

To the man went there 24 times. I’d wonder why you felt the need to go so often. You found what YOU were seeking.  An unfaithful generation seek ‘signs and wonders’.

Thank God for Medjugorje. Thanks to the Mother of Christ, my Mother, Sister, Friend, Protector – and mother of all contemplation, for gifting me, by taking me there and helping me ‘see’ what I could ‘see’ as a child.

All which I took from thee I did but take,  Not for thy harms,
But just that thou might’st seek it in My arms.  All which thy child’s mistake
Fancies as lost, I have stored for thee at home:        Rise, clasp My hand, and come !’

    None are ‘authorities’.

If you have not been there and could go, I’d very strongly suggest you do – and ‘see’ for yourself.

    You have nothing to lose.

I did not see people delivered from devil possession.

I did see, and continue to see, people go to daily Mass/Eucharist, learn to pray with the heart (as the Mother of Contemplation would have us do), rosary, daily scripture reading other than what is heard at Mass, Confession and fasting.

I can accept people having difficulties, for whatever reasons with this and that’s OK.

Just don’t presume to tell the rest of us we are being deceived. You only show yourself up.

God bless each and every one of you and may Our Mother keep us all safe under Her mantle.

At the Cross, her station keeping,
    Stood the mournful mother weeping,
    Where He hung, the dying Lord;
For her soul of joy bereavèd,
    Bowed with anguish, deeply grievèd,
Felt the sharp and piercing sword.Oh, how sad and sore distressèd
Now was she, that mother blessèd
    Of the sole begotten One;
Deep the woe of her affliction,
    When she saw the crucifixion
Of her ever glorious Son.Who, on Christ’s dear mother gazing
    Pierced by anguish so amazing
Born of woman, would not weep?
Who, on Christ’s dear mother thinking
Such a cup of sorrow drinking
Would not share her sorrows deep? For His people’s sins chastisèd,
    She beheld her Son despisèd,
    Scourged, and crowned with thorns entwined;
Saw Him then from judgment taken,
And in death by all forsaken,
Till His Spirit He resigned.Jesu, may her deep devotion
Stir in me the same emotion,
    Fount of love, Redeemer kind,
That my heart fresh ardor gaining,
    And a purer love attaining,
    May with Thee acceptance find.

How can you not understand, the seers had a choice of what they wanted to become, they got married and had children, one of the most hardest jobs in the world is to raise a family in a spiritual home.  Not only that but they have a job ahead of them that seems not to be understood and that is not to hide from the world but to spread God’s word to the people. Please stop judging them just because they did not become nuns or priests, atleast they did not go to HOLYWOOD to seek fame. Oh how I would have love to have become a nun myself but it was not my path but it does not mean I live a less Holy life as others as I have one of the most hardest jobs to get right and that is to raise my children to become good members of society and good children of GOD.

  • Dendensdy

There is a third group: middle-ground Catholics on the issue. I am neither anti-Medjugorje, nor for it. I’ll wait until the Catholic Church will have a definitive judgment on the apparition. Until that happens, I will not judge on the character of the visionaries whether they are living holy lives or not bec I am not their spiritual director or confessor either.  Only the final investigation of the Church will make me consider going there bec of the controversy surrounding it (for prudence sake). But definitely I will not discourage others who would want to go there as pilgrims if they can find solace in the place and the collective prayers of the faithful.  As long as the believers of Medjugorje are prepared to accept with obedience the final decision of Rome even if it is to the point of refusal to recognize the autheticity,  that will be the ultimate test of their obedience to the Magisterium.

In the apparition of our Lady of La Sa lette, it was approved by the Catholic Church . Sad to say the seers did not live the heroic Christian virtues to merit sainthood. It’s the message that counts and the authenticity of the apparition.  The visionaries including the errant priests associated with Medjugorje still have the freedom to choose God or not.

  • Sophie

I don’t know about you guys. But there are really more pressing matters for us Christians esp Catholics that to bicker on the authenticity of Medjugorje. Let the Commission formed by the Catholic Church do its job. Let people pray where they like for as long as in the end they do what Jesus commanded us to do: Go and preach the Gospel to all nations”.

With that said, can we just all be united in dealing with a major threat facing now the Church in Europe, North America and elsewhere with democratic governments? It’s the Islamisation of these countries through immigration.  France has more mosques being built now (150 and counting) whereas the Catholic churches are closing. There is a report from EWTN regarding this and I posted the link below. To quote a very scary and disturbing revelation by an Archbishop which you will find in the last paragraph of the report:

“In 1999, Archbishop Giuseppe Bernardini, an Italian Franciscan who heads the Izmir Archdiocese in Turkey, recalled a conversation he had with a Muslim leader for the Synod of European Bishops, which was gathered in Rome. That leader told him, “thanks to your democratic laws, we will invade you. Thanks to our religious laws, we will dominate you.”
October 7, Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary is coming up. It is in October 7, 1571 that Pope Pius V  called on the Catholics to say the Rosary to pray for the victory of the Christian fleet in the Battle of Lepanto. That day with the few numbers of the Christian fleet compared to the mighty fleet of the Turks, Christians with the aid of the Blessed Mother saw the defeat of the Turks.   I enjoined everyone to pray the 4 Mysteries of the Holy Rosary dedicated to the revival of Christianity in Europe and North America and to stop the evil plans of the Muslims and the persecution of Christians in the Middle East and where Christians are a minority.

No matter whether you believe in Our Lady of Lourdes, Our Lady of Fatima, Our Lady of Medjugorje or not , am sure the message of the Blessed Mother is the same. pope benedict has taken issue with the authority at Medj. and taken it out of the bishop’s hands, not a good sign for  the impartiality of that bishop.  now you naysayers should be respectful of medj. as our current and last popes have been.

division within the faithful has been with us since time immemorial. what matters is what christ has revealed.

Oh I HAVE gone to Fatima. I went there before I went to Medjugorje. I have met many who have gone to Lourdes as well as Fatima. It is NOT the place, but the devotion to Our Lady who leads us to Her Son. I have also gone to Rue De Boc where Our Lady appeared to Sr Catherine Laboure.

What’s the point of your smarmy remark?

And what are your qualifications? And the author’s. It was not for no reason that the decision was taken out of the Bishop’s hands and given to the Vatican commission. I was outside St. James Church while the Bishop was performing the Confirmation Mass, and listened to the sound system as this Bishop ranted like a madman, gnashing his teeth against the apparitions. He raved for 20 minutes non stop. It was shocking! What the apparitions had to do with a Confirmation Mass I have no idea. But it DID tell volumes of WHY the Holy Father removed the decision out of his hands. The Bishop is in dire need of prayers.

Every apparition of Our Lady has broad implications for the World outside of the Parish in which She appears.

This step is UNPRECEDENTED in the annals of the Church.

If you can’t be factual at least try and be honest, the Church hasn’t come to any conclusion so how could you have come to the SAME one.As for Francis Philips it is also very misleading,NO ONE is being disobedient to the Church by going to Medjugorje and the Church has NEVER said this.

In November of 2009 I wrote the following to Pope Benedict via the Vatican, a portion at the beginnig is removed due to overall size:
Dear Holy Father, I first ask that this reaches your eyes, as I am writing with urgency as I read  today in a blog Reuters an article entitled: Vatican
    ruling on disputed
    Medjugorje shrine expected
    soon.This
    article had the statement
    from Cardinal
    Puljic:
    “We are now
    awaiting a new directive
    on this issue,”
    said Puljic, the
    Sarajevo archbishop who
    survived the city’s long
    wartime siege in the
    1990s. “I
don’t think we must wait for a long time, I think it will be this year,
but that is not clear… I am going to Rome in November and we must
    discuss this.”

    ………………How
is all of this related to Medjugorje?  Well we all should be able to
see, if one were able to study these messages over time and the actions
of Our Holy Father with respect to such events as the Extraordinary
Marian Year in 1988, and his veiled responses as well as statements
made, that he was inclined toward believing Medjugorje was authentic and
certainly you are more aware than us of this disposition. He certainly
did not want what was happening there stopped dead in it’s tracks until
all of what was occurring was completed.   Some say the apparitions are
too many and too long.  But if we are to accept for the sake of
argument alone that it has been stated by Our Lady in these messages
    that these are her
final apparitions on earth, and she comes like a mother as one seer
reported states (IVAN), he asks how many mothers cannot relate to
telling her children over and over things so that they will listen.
Also, apparitions of Sr. Lucia at Fatima took place, including her later
apparitions, covered MANY years, did they not?   Points to make:              1. The children did not know of any title of Queen of Peace prior to the
apparitions. The final prayer in the Litany of Our Lady, written many years
before, which was added on May 5,
1917, by Pope Benedict XV who decreed
the invocation, ‘Queen of peace,’ to be added to the victorious Litany of the
Blessed Virgin Mary. is first Our Lady of the Holy
Rosary.  It would be a big

stretch of the imagination to assert the children schemed to have to come up
with this title and being it is given as the final title used in prayer in the Litany
of Our Lady (and that she has said these are her final apparitions on earth).
                  2. Until just recently, I lived in the Washington DC area.  I was able to visit the
Basilica of the Immaculate Conception on various occasions, and was quite
amazed to realize one day, that the shrine to Our Lady Queen of Peace, right

at the entrance to the Crypt downstairs, was
    dedicated by the people of
CROATIA in 1971, well prior to the first reported apparition in June of
                    1981 in Medjugorje!!
                  3. The apparitions began on the Feast of John the Baptist- it would be a stretch
to assert that the children came up with this day as part of the whole plan.
Fire or the appearance of fire is associated with this apparition (see No. 7

                      below as an example).
Most importantly, in contrast to the Western world, this
village was taking a day of rest and reflection on the Feast of John the
Baptist, as was their custom.  The children/seers of Medjugorje all attest that
they were not particularly religious, and some were hanging out in the hills
where the sheep were, as teenagers. Certainly Our Lady and Our Lord must
smile down upon these people as they honor God and John the
    Baptist.
                  4.  In the book, The Intimate Life of Sr. Lucia by Fether Robert J. Fox, I ran across this today which are words from you, Holy Father, then Cardinal Ratzinger, commenting on the third secret of Fatima:  “The
history of an entire century can be seen represented in this image.
Just as the places of earth are synthetically described in the two
images of the mountain and the city, and are directed toward the cross,
so too time is presented in a compressed way. In the vision we can
recognize the last century (20th) as a century of martyrs, a century of
suffering and persecution for the Church, a century of World Wars and
    the many local wars which
filled the last 50 years and have inflicted unprecedented forms of
cruelty. In the mirror of this vision we see passing before us the
witnesses of the faith decade by decade. Here it would be appropriate to
mention a phrase from the letter Sr. Lucia writes to the Holy Father on
May 12, 1982: “The third part of the Secret refers to Our Lady’s
Words:  If not, Russia will spread her errors throughout the world,
    causing wars and persecution of  the Church. The good will be martyred;
the Holy father will have much to suffer; various natiosn will be
    annihilated.”
    related to this:
    5. Prior to the time the late Bishop Zanic
forced a declaration through his commission that as of that date there
was no proof of supernatural phenomenon, for months the children had
been coming out of the reported apparitions crying and crying, and they
said they saw things happening which they could not convey, and
were also given secrets, some of which are future events. Time and time
    again,
especially during this time, they repeated that Our Lady emphasized over and over said with prayer and fasting even wars can be averted or lessened. IT WAS RIGHT AFTER BISHOP ZANIC FORCED THIS DECLARATION OF “NO PROOF OF SUPERNATURAL” THAT THE DEVASTATING WAR IN YUGOSLAVIA BROKE OUT!!!!!!!”  THE VATICAN Also MADE A MOVE WITH RESPECT TO HIS OVERALL JURISDICTION around that time.
    Your
Holiness, we know that Sr. Lucia repeated that Our Lady said the
consecration of Russia  and the World to her Immaculate Heart (and thus
the implicit belief by all of the Bishops and Holy Father) was necessary
    to
    keep Russia
and communism from spreading its ways.  If we fail to let these
apparitions run their course, and force an early declaration, we most
certainly may be lessening the grace of God, of His protection of our
World, Our Church, Our people. We also know that, for example,
during the famed miracle of the sun,  Sr. Lucia said a priest was
standing nearby, mocking the visionaries and saying they were all
deceived, telling everyone to to go home. After
the miracles, she noted the priest could not be found.  We know similar
things happened with St. Bernadette, and that the children of Fatima,
young as they were, were threatened to be boiled in oil yet they did not
waver or recant their story.  We can only expect the same will be
encountered in a true apparition today. PLEASE LET THESE THINGS RUN
THEIR COURSE AS UNFETTERED AS POSSIBLE – IT WAS THE COMMUNISTS WHO TRIED
TO STAMP THESE EVENTS OUT AND QUIET THEM IN THE EARLY DAYS, AND WE
SURELY CANNOT BE ON THE SAME SIDE AS THEM!!  FR. JOZO WAS THROWN IN
PRISON AND TORTURED, AND BISHOP ZANIC SIDED WITH HIM AND THE CHILDREN
UNTIL IT WAS CONVEYED BY OUR LADY THAT HE MAY HAVE ACTED HARSHLY IN
REPRIMANDING A YOUNG FRANCISCAN, OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT.  I BELIEVE HIS
ATTITUDE WAS THEN” OUR LADY WOULD NEVER INTERFERE IN THE DECISION OF A
BISHOP. ” YET WE KNOW THE APOSTLES HELD HER DEAR AND ALSO,LOOKED TO HER
    FOR GUIDANCE, AND ANY
ADMONISHMENT WOULD BE WITH LOVE.6. I visited
Medjugorje in the late 80′s prior to the War.    I must admit I saw
several very specific supernatural phenomenon, and had some very
deep, personal conveyances from the Lord while there. I asked the host
family about the word “Peace” being written in the sky through the
clouds in the early days of the apparition.  Our host said, yes the
WHOLE village saw it, all went out to see it, and it lasted for about 20
MINUTES, the word MIR written in the clouds!!!  Although the signs are
not necessary for salvation as some say, nonetheless the Holy Apostle
were certainly given a number of signs ,as were witnesses of Christ in
His day. With respect to Medjugorje, it has been said that our Lady has
conveyed these signs are meant to stir the faith of people.
                 7.  There was
a report in the Sacramento Bee ( I had happened to read some
writings about it in a Marian newspaper, written just prior to Medjugorje).  This
report covered an event that occurred in April 1981, two months before the
Medjugore events.  There was a huge Aurora Borealis, and it lit up the sky -so
much so that fire trucks were dispatched to the hills where the glow was in California, but
when they got there there was no fire.  It was also noted in this report that the
lights on this night in the sky were seen all across the
    country,  and what was phenomenal
was that it was reported across the country as it moved at 9 pm from East to
West, seen at 9 pm in each placece. In one of the early apparitions it was noted in a book
that during oen of the apparitions the watch of one of the seers 12
hand changed to a 9.  To me this is no coincidence and indicates God is
“turning back the clock” for additional time to repent, a time of grace, before
                       various events occur.

    8. Witnesses to the children early on said they flew up the hill to the site of said
apparitions in an un-human manner and incredible speed, through thorns and
bushes.  The children said Our Lady was beckoning them to come.
                   9. Regarding fire again, a  fire which does not destroy, like the fire of Moses, like
the fire referred to by John the Baptist with respect to Jesus (“The one who is
coming will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with Fire).  At one time, the

Communist authorities tried to ban the apparitions (as the Bishop is doing
now).  One night, it is attested that they thought the hills were on fire, and
when they went to put them out, the fire was not there.

    THE
RECENT STATEMENTS BY THE CARDINAL, WITH ALL DUE RESPECT,  SEEM MUCH
ALONG THE LINE OF BISHOP ZANIC’S IN THE PAST AS HE TRIED TO SQUELCH THE
APPARITIONS.   NOW WE ALL KNOW THAT IF THERE ARE AUTHENTIC APPARITIONS
SATAN WILL BE STRONG AND WILL TRY TO DESTROY IT.  HE WILL CAUSE
CONFUSION AND DISSENSION AMONG THE BRETHEREN AS WELL.

    WE
WHO HAVE BEEN TO MEDJUGORJE AND HAVE EXPERIENCED ONCE- IN- A
LIFETIME-MIRACLES AND GRACE ASK ONLY THAT THESE REPORTED APPARITIONS ARE
ALLOWED TO CONTINUE UNFETTERED UNTIL WHAT THEY HAVE PROMISED IS
FULFILLED.  THERE CAN CERTAINLY BE NO HARM FROM PEOPLE CONVERTING,
CONFESSING, AND BEING ON FIRE FOR THE LORD, SPREADING THE PEACE OF GOD
UNTIL THIS TIME. THIS HAS BEEN CONFIRMED BY THE VATICAN ON SEVERAL
    OCCASIONS.

IT APPEARS THAT THOSE WHO ARE RADICALLY  OPPOSED TO
THESE APPARITIONS ARE ALSO ON A VENDETTA TO SHOW HOW THE SINS OF A FEW
,FOR EXAMPLE, THE PRIEST WHO LEFT MANY YEARS AGO AND HAS NOT BEEN
ASSOCIATED WITH THE APPARITIONS AT ALL FOR MANY YEARS, PROVES THE
    APPARITIONS ARE A
FAKE.  HOW WEAK OF A THEOLOGICAL ARGUMENT IS THIS? I SUPPOSE THE
SAME LOGIC, IF USED IN THE LIFE OF CHRIST, COULD ASSERT THAT SINCE
JUDAS DID WHAT HE DID, AND HE WAS ONE OF JESUS’ DISCIPLES, THEN THE
ACTIONS AND TRUTH OF CHRIST MUST BE FALSE!!!

    THERE ARE CERTAIN
ASPECTS OF THESE APPARITIONS AS REPORTED THAT CAN BE CONCRETELY AND
DEFINITIVELY SHOWN TO BE OF GOD OR NOT….SUCH AS:

    First :
it is quite clear, from each seer, that there are ten secrets entrusted
to each, and for all of the seers, there are THREE WARNINGS THAT WILL BE
GIVEN AND DISSEMINATED THROUGHOUT THE WORLD, AS TO WHAT WILL HAPPEN AND
WHEN.  THEY, WHO HAVE RECEIVED ALL TEN SECRETS, KNOW WHEN THESE EVENTS
WILL OCCUR. THE CHURCH SHOULD NOT PRONOUNCE UNLESS THERE IS CLEAR
DOCTRINE BEING TAUGHT COUNTER TO THE CHURCH THROUGH THE APPARITIONS AND
THE FRUITS THEREOF.  WE CANNOT LOOK BEYOND THE ACTUAL SEERS THEMSELVES,
IN THE END, TO DISCERN THIS, IN MY OPINION.

    If
this logic were to apply to the Church in general, namely the failings
of some of our priests, nuns and laypersons, do we say with the same
logic that the Church is false and manipulative etc?  Of course not,
    this is preposterous as
the gates of hell shall not prevail against her!!!  Yet, if God choses
to visit us for our good in a visitation of an Angel or from Our Lady,
he comes to an imperfect Church that has
sinners.  WHY WOULD MEDJUGORJE BE ANYHTING BUT A MICROCOSM OF THE
CHURCH TO SOME EXTENT, WHY WOULD THOSE AROUND IT , I.E. THOSE NOT THE
SEERS THEMSELVES, BE HELD TO ANY HIGHER STANDARD THAN THOSE IN THE
CHURCH OVERALL?   I SAY AGAIN WE CANNOT JUDGE THESE APPARITIONS BASED
UPON ANY PERSONAL POTENTIALLY BIASED OPINIONS, BUT MUST BEG GOD FOR THE
TRUE WISDOM OF GOD, AND WE MUST LOOK AT THE SEERS AND WHAT IS BEING
SAID, THEIR ACTIONS (HOW MANY YOUNG PEOPLE DO WE KNOW THAT HAVE FASTED
TWO DAYS A WEEK ON BREAD AND WATER FOR THE INTENTIONS OF OUR LADY FOR
ALMOST 30 YEARS?? IT IS IMPOSSIBLE WITHOUT THE GRACE OF GOD!!)

    HOLY
FATHER, I CAN SAY THIS ABOUT MY EXPERIENCE IN MEDJUGORJE IN THE LATE
80′S.  THERE IS NO WAY THAT A PERSON CAN EXPERIENCE WHAT IS OCURRING AT
MEDJUGORJE WITH A CLOSED MIND AND HEART.  WHAT I MEAN TO SAY IS, IF THE
MIND AND HEART ARE CLOSED, YOU WILL NOT EXPERIENCE IT, UNLESS THE LORD
    DETERMINES ONE SHOULD HAVE A
PAULINE-TYPE EXPERIENCE.  THIS IS WHY THE BISHOP(S) IN YUGOSLAVIA DO
NOT EXPERIENCE THE TRUTH OF MEDJUGORJE IN MY OPINION, BECAUSE THEIR
    HEART AND MINDS ARE COMPLETELY
CLOSED TO THE IDEA, AND THEY FIGHT AGAINST IT.

    THE TRUTH OF
MEDJUGORJE WILL MOST CERTAINLY BE PROVED BY THE WARNINGS GIVEN TO
MANKIND, THREE DAYS IN ADVANCE, WHICH WILL BE ANNOUNCED TO THE WORLD,
AND A FINAL PERMANENT SIGN WILL BE PLACED UPON THE SITE OF THE FIRST
APPARITION.  THERE WILL BE NO WIGGLE ROOM OR THEOLOGICAL INTELLECTUAL
DISCUSSION ON THESE EVENTS, WHICH ARE OBVIOUSLY RELATIVELY NEAR AS THE
PRIEST ENTRUSTED WITH THE PARCHMENT ON WHICH THESE SECRETS ARE WRITTEN
IS 65!! AS FAR AS THE LENGTH OF THE APPARITIONS, WE KNOW SR. LUCIA WAS
TOLD WHEN SHE SEES THE NIGHT LIGHTED BY AN UNKNOWN LIGHT, KNOW THAT
GOD’S PUNISHMENT IS NEAR, AND THIS WAS MANY YEARS AFTER THE BEGINNING OF
THE APPARITIONS.  HOW CAN WE FORGET THAT IN GOD’S EYES A THOUSAND YEARS
    ARE AS A DAY?

SATAN WANTS TO DESTROY THE PLAN TO CONVERT MANY IN
THE WORLD, BUT AS OUR LADY HAS SAID, DO NOT WAIT UNTIL AFTER ALL OF
THESE EVENTS, AS FOR MANY IT WILL BE TOO
    LATE.

WHEN I WAS IN MEDJUGORJE, AND I WILL ATTEST THIS THIS IN
THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST, I SAW THE MIRACLE OF THE SUN, AND I SAW IT
DURING THE LATE 80′S EARLY 90′S MANY, MANY TIMES INT HE U.S. AS WELL.  IT
IS AS IF ANGELS MINISTER TO PEOPLE TO CLEAR/OPEN THEIR EYES TO SEE THIS.

    I
    ALSO
SAW ONE PHENOMENON THAT WILL ALWAYS STICK IN MY MIND.  ONE DAY PEOPLE
WERE LOOKING UP AT THE MOUNTAIN, THERE SEEMED TO BE A LOT OF ACTIVITY,
SO I ASKED SOMEONE WALKING BY, WHAT IS GOING ON.  THE MAN SAID SOME
PEOPLE WERE SEEING OUR LADY ON THE MOUNTAIN (CROSS MOUNTAIN). AFTER HE
WALKED BY MY EYES WERE IMMEDIATELY OPENED, AND LET ME ADD HERE THAT I AM
BOTH AMUSED AND UPSET BY THOSE WHO SAY THESE THINGS ARE FROM THE POWER
OF SUGGESTION – THEY ARE FROM THE POWER OF ANGELS, OF GOD, AND OUR LADY
HAS STATED THAT MILLIONS OF ANGELS MINISTER IN MEDJUGORJE….BUT BACK TO
    WHAT I SAW:

…….SUDDENLY, ON TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN WAS A GOLDEN
DOME, AN ARCH FILLED WITH THE COLOR OF GOLD, BUT IT WAS A GOLDEN COLOR
UNLIKE ANYTHING WE SEE- IT WAS COMPLETELY CLEAR, IT WAS LIKE A MOVIE –
IT WAS NOT AN IMAGINING OF ANY TYPE AT ALL – IT WAS THERE AND IT WAS
BEAUTIFUL, BEAUTIFUL GOLD, I  THE SHAPE OF AN ARCH, FILLED WITH GOLD IN
    THE INTERIOR.  AT THE
    CENTER,
WHERE THE CROSS WOULD NORMALLY BE, WAS A BEAUTIFUL PINK CENTER TOUCHING
THE GROUND. IT EMANATED TO ME THE SENSE OF A ROSE, AND I COULD ONLY
    THINK THAT THAT REPRESENTED MARY.

HOLY FATHER, I AM NOT MAKING
THIS UP, AND THIS WAS NOT A SLIGHT MYSTICAL VISION AT ALL, SUCH AS YOU
MIGHT HAVE IN YOUR MINDS EYES DURING PRAYER WHICH I HAVE EXPERIENCED AS
WELL IN MY LIFE AT VARYING TIMES.  THIS WAS AS IF THIS GOLD DOME JUST
DESCENDED, AND I WAS TRULY IN AWE OF THIS. BUT WHAT I MUST REPEAT – IT
WAS LIKE A MOVIE OR LIKE IT WAS BEING SHOWN, AND IT WAS NOT FUZZY OR
    SLIGHT IN COLOR, OR FADED.
NO ONE COULD FAKE THIS OR MAKE IT UP (FOR
EXAMPLE PROJECT IT ON THE MOUNTAIN!!! BESIDES IT HAD A POWER, BEAUTIFUL
HEAVENLY PRESENCE EMANATING FROM IT) – I KNOW WHAT I SAW- THIS WAS JUST
ONE THING, I SAW OTHERS AND SUFFICE IT TO SAY EXTERNAL SIGNS HAVE BEEN
PREVALENT, AND ARE MEANT TO AWAKEN THE FAITH OF THE PEOPLE.

    THE
ARGUMENT OF TOO MANY APPARITIONS SHOULD
NOT BE A CRITERIA IF INDEED THESE ARE OUR LADY’S FINAL APPARITIONS ON
EARTH!!!! SHE LOVES US,,, SHE IS TRYING TO PREPARE US, WARN US, AS IVAN
HAS REPEATED ON HIS PARTICULAR EXPLANATION OF THIS, IT IS LIKE MOTHERS,
WHO HAVE TO TELL THEIR CHILDREN, TEACH THEIR CHILDREN, OVER AND OVER AND
THE CHILDREN FORGET….LOOK AT WHAT HAPPENED TO THE ISRAELITES AFTER
THEY HAD MANNA, HAD BEEN LED THROUGH THE RED SEA..SOME ARE STIRRED UP TO
WORSHIP A GOLDEN CALF WHILE MOSES IS ON THE MOUNTAIN OF GOD RECEIVING
THE TEN COMMANDMENTS!!! NUMBER OF APPARITIONS CANNOT BE A PRE-DETERMINED
NEGATIVE FACTOR – GOD HAS NEVER ESTABLISHED RULES ON THIS, OF COURSE!!

    THE
BISHOP(CARDINAL) IN MEDJUGORJE RECENTLY SPOKE TO CONFIRMATION STUDENTS
OF THE APPARITIONS BEING FALSE …TO ME HE HAS STEPPED OUTSIDE THE
BOUNDS.  I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT TO RECEIVE, BELIEVE, EXPERIENCE THESE
THINGS YOUR HEART AND MIND MUST BE OPENED!!! HIS MIND IS CERTAINLY NOT
OPENED AT THIS TIME, I MUST
    SAY, THAT
    SHOULD BE OBVIOUS.
    One
event that I saw in Medjugorje will attest to this. I was in a group of
young people (younger than me) from New Orleans along with a Priest and
a couple of friends who paid for my trip.  I had been writing and
singing (guitar) songs, dedicated to Our Lady and Our Lord, and a
gracious benefactor felt I should go.

    The young priest leading
the group was nice, but I sensed that he was always joking about things,
didn’t seem to be getting to deeper things with the youth, no disrespect
to him.  One night, we all walked in the dark toward the church, with
flashlights in complete darkness at that time as everything was as yet
very undeveloped.  They had decided to have a group prayer time, in a
big circle, with the kids and Father. My friend who was with me
explained that he was going to go, and Father, but that was it and
unfortunately I would not be able to
attend.  I had my guitar with me on my back, and thought I’d sing a
song, hopefully minster to the youth in this way.

    Well I was hurt
and disappointed and just wandered over toward the church. I didn’t
understand and thought maybe the priest didn’t like me or something.
When I got to the church, the outside lights were on, but all was dark
in the church, and at that time the Franciscans slept in the Bell
towers.  All was quiet, not a soul in sight, so I sat on the steps, near
the towers.  Being a Secular Franciscan, I felt the presence of Christ,
of Francis on this trip as well at times, so I felt a peace siting
    below the Franciscans.

As I sat on the steps, feeling sorry for
myself, there was not a soul in sight, and the priests were asleep.
Suddenly from the darkness I saw someone come walking near, but
hesitatingly, taking a few steps haltingly, then finally starting to
    walk toward me.
It was cold out, in the
mountain air, yet he had just a short sleeve
T-shirt on, and he had white masking tape around his neck from some type of sore or wound.

    He
did not speak English, just a few words, but he motioned and asked if he
could sit by me. Pointing to himself he said “Me
    Petar….Medjugorje..drugs, drinking, kaput!”
    I said, pointing to
myself  “Tom, America…me drugs alcohol kaput!”  Well instantly there
was a camaraderie there, and even though we did not speak each other’s
language, we communicated.  He said “Stay Medjugorje ….no go home..
drinking, drugs, blah blah blah” denoting carousing and partying that
goes on at home. He conveyed to me he was staying in Medjugorje to keep
away from these things.  I could see that he was doing this even though
he was apparently sleeping outside and was very cold.

    I had a my
rosary out. At the time, my rosary, which had become a golden color in
the chains, but I didn’t focus on this, but what I would point out is
    that this rosary
    broke..it was
broken, the chain,  and I kept it as a reminder of Christ’s brokenness.
I had a good young priest friend that I prayed with, and he would speak
often of our brokenness in Christ.

As I sat with my new friend
Petar (I assumed it meant Peter), he saw my rosary dangling there, took
hold of it as I held it, kissed it and he motioned we should pray.  We
prayed each prayer, in our native tongues, and time seemed to fly by.
Soon, my friend from New Orleans (also a recovering alcoholic/addict)
came walking up to get me as the prayer group with the youth was over.  I
introduced him to Petar, and told him that Petar was freezing.  I asked
him if he had something he could give him to wear, as I had just one
brown shirt I wore, always with the San Damiano Cross. My friend said he
would run back to his pilgrim guest house, which was really far away.
He went, in the dark, and he said he startled the guest house host. He
    got a
very green Irish looking sweater, and ran all he way back, and gave it
to Petar.  Petar seemed amazed.  Then, I looked in my wallet, and I had
literally just $20 US dollars on me for the rest of the trip, but the
meals and all were paid for.  I gave Petar $10.  He just looked down, as
if he would cry, and I went to hug him goodbye. He squeezed me hard and
kissed me on the left cheek. As we left, he stood just waving at us,
clad in his green sweater, as we went down the dark paths back to our
    cottage.

The events for that night were very profound for both
me and my friend from New Orleans,  and I could see the Lord had
something else for me that night than what I had planned. It wasn’t
until a bit later that these events would come into focus, mostly
through a rush of understanding as I left Medjugorje. Tears filled my
eyes and the eyes of others on our bus, completely quiet now as we all
realized we were saying goodbye to
    Our Mother (though she
is always with us) and the faithful people of Medjugorje.  The
experiences I had came back to me, and I don’t recall exactly when I
realized the following, but I did:  I recalled one day during the
daytime, during Mass.  I was hearing Mass outside in the overflow.  At
communion time, the Franciscan Priest would come out the door and we
received Our Lord.  I was looking around for a place to kneel after I
received the host, and I could only find a place of bare dirt. This also
seemed fitting to me, considering Francis and his love of Mother Earth.
As I knelt there, a dog- very emaciated, rib-bones showing through, as
if he hadn’t eaten and was in bad shape, approached me. I had just
received the Eucharist, and I wondered if it would be fitting to touch a
dog at that time.   The dog, as I reached to touch him, cowled back as
if I was going to hit him – I realized the dog must have been beaten
    too. When I
finally touched the dog, he realized I meant no harm and jumped on me
and started licking my left cheek.  I
happened to look up and saw the Franciscan priest going in the door- he
seemed to pause and look at me.

    At
some point, I began thinking about Petar, about this dog, and I
realized they both kissed me on the left cheek. Like Petar, the dog
walked haltingly to me, then was very friendly when he realized I meant
no harm. The dog represented Petar.  As these realizations came to me in
a wave of understanding, I felt clearly the Lord speak to me in my
spirit:  “You receive me in the Eucharist.  You must also receive me in
the broken ones I send to you”.

    Holy
Father, these are a few things I wanted to write to you. May the Lord
Jesus continue to bless you, and may all of the Holy Martyrs and
Apostles pray for you constantly. Please pray for us.

I respectively disagree with you but understand why and how you reached your conclusion. You seem to be a doubting Thomas type of person and possibly a judgemental person. I hope not since appear to be well educated and a good Catholic.  Also, it appears to me that you personally have not been to Medjugorje. I would respect your opinion more if you had. We both know that the Vatican policy is not to approve an apparition while it is occuring. As you probably know the Vatican is in the process of another investigation into the apparitions at Medjugorje.  And you know many people followed Jesus and many people did not.  Whose side would you have been on?  I do not feel Catholics are being diobedient by going on a pilgrimage to Medjugorje. And, it has been stated by the church that it is not wrong to go there.  I personally know a non-Catholic who had a conversion in Medjugorje, became a Catholic, and for several years now teaches bible study classes. She and her husband are highly educated and affluent, and do not take the miracle lightly.  I have a personal friend who told me she went to Medjugorje early on in the apparitions because, as a devotee to the Rosary, she never wanted to appear in front of Our Lord upon her death and explain to him why she did not visit his Mother when she heard she was appearing in Medjugorje.  My friend is now seventy years old but was in her fifties when she first went there.  She is also a retired attorney as well as accompolished author.  I feel blessed that I was able to go as well and hope to go back there someday.  I believe this apparition is meant to be shared with the world not to be silenced. Have you taken the time to read any of the messages?  Our Lady asks us for conversion, prayer (especially the rosary), monthly confession and fasting. The messages of the past few months are well worth the read.  God Bles you.

You can easily google search various sites on the negativity of the Bishops in Medjugorje, especially Zanic and the current Bishop.  Start with this site which states in part:    Prominent Catholic Columnist for
Beliefnet.com Greg Kandra and author of a recent online article titled
“Someone should alert Cardinal Schonborn” wrote to us and said:  “I
think the Cardinal is being irresponsible in his very public support for
an “apparition” that has not been approved by the Church, and I would
caution all faithful Catholics to tread carefully on the issue of
Medjugorje.”    What such criticisms ignore, however—whether
deliberately or out of mere misunderstanding—is the Church’s official
position on Medjugorje, which is found in documents issued by the Holy
See and which clearly distances itself from Bishop Peric’s position on
Medjugorje, showing that Cardinal Schonborn is the one aligned with
    Church teaching on the issue.
    On
May 26, 1998, Archbishop Tarcisio Bertone, then the Secretary to the
Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, the most influential office
within the Roman Curia and the one responsible for dealing with reports
of private revelations, issued a letter clarifying the Church’s official
position on Medjugorje. The letter explained:
    “What
Bishop Peric said in his letter to the Secretary General of ‘Famille
Chretienne,’ declaring: ‘My conviction and my position is not only “non
constat de supernaturalitate,” but likewise, “constat de non
supernaturalitate” of the apparitions or revelations in Medjugorje,’
should be considered the expression of the personal conviction of the
Bishop of Mostar which he has the right to express as Ordinary of the
place, but which is and remains his personal opinion      http://www.ministryvalues.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1168&Itemid=347

    Medjugorje Message, May 25, 1995 – MEDJUGORJE

“Dear Children! I invite you, little children, to help me through your prayers so that as many hearts as possible come close to my Immaculate Heart. Your heart is like ploughed soil and it is ready to receive the fruit which will grow into what is good. You, little dhildren, are free to choose good or evil. Therefore, I call you to pray and fast.Satan is strong and with all his forces wants to bring closer the most people possible to himself and to sin. That is why he is on the prowl to snatch more every moment. I beg you, little children, pray and help me to help you. I am your mother and I love you and that is why I wish to help you. Thank you for having responded to my call. ”

Remember, you – people believing that if you do not love you so falošními hypocrites and you will never see God in heaven. But if anyone despise you, if it seems rude and ungrateful, do not you love him, want to see him, avoid his community. My God! Yet such behavior will lead us to perdition!

Predsa takéto správanie nás privedie do zatratenia!

Cardinal Shonborn is once again insulting the local bishop by welcoming the “seers” to his cathedral and supporting their incredibly ridiculous claim that Our Lady will be “appearing” online today.
Please – everyone –  sign the petition http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/themedjugorjescandal/ to get the Vatican to put an end to his public endorsement of the Medjugorje phenomenon.

Your persistent disobedient cannot possibly be pleasing to God.

Fake or not. It’s only generating faith in people in this Godless society.

Many in the Catholic Church are so biased, yet Medjugorje has definately helped people, including myself revert back to prayer, especially the rosary. God is infinate and great, and in his great wisdom has given us numerous chances to draw us closer to him.

Don’t look for other people’s opinions on this board/forum, pray to the one God with an open heart, like many have stated, and he shall give you an answer for the decisive questions many carry.

Prayer, fasting, forgiveness and love..  Some keys words often mentioned by Mother Mary in Medjugorje.

One of the commandents is to respect your parents, Jesus was born of this beautiful Lady, who pleads for mankind to her son on a continuous basis. A mother knows best.

We should all pray for personal spriritual growth. That is all.

Two entirely different issues, but – it seems commonplace to smokescreen like this. Cardinal Newman was indeed right in saying people are blessed for having truly believed in something which then turns out not to be true – granted. But – to use this as a maxim to actively do this – wrong wrong wrong.

  • berengere

a call to going to mass is desobedience? a call to follow all sacraments is desobedience? a call to go to the sacrament of reconciliation is desobedience?  a call for prayer is desobedience? a call to peace is desobedience? what kind of church do you exaclty have obedience to?
you base your analysis on human behaviours, visionaries and fransicans, both categories are humans, no one asked you to worship them! these arguments are as stupid as the atheists saying the catholic church is the make of satan because of the acts of pedophile priests!
last time i checked, the catholic church do ask to go to mass, do ask to follow the sacraments, do ask to do penitence, do ask to pray, do ask to make peace in our world!
get logical! and please do not use quotes from holy persons such as Sainte Bernadette to serve your little selfish purposes.

  • berengere

you seem to know a lot about what the devil wants or not…

  • berengere

and who are you to know what pleases God? serisously people wake up! it is not the place but the message! same misunderstanding as with the christians who think catholic are evil because we ask the saints to pray for us and intercede for us? in their views we worship the saints which is untrue but here it goes… ups i just realised, i guess i should not have mentioned another confession as i bet in your views they are evil? how pueril and ridiculous!
well i’ll get back to my “desobedience” according to you human people, with my rosary and listen to the church authority. if they say the apparitions are false, there you go, no more medjugorje, but i’ll keep the rosary, the mass, the peace, the reconciliation, the adoration, the eucharisty… but ssshhhh never say these are words from the messages…

TO THE AUTHOR OF THIS ARTICLE:

THE DEVIL LOVES PRIDE THE MOST!!! Pride is the root of all evil and, therefore, disobedience. Medjugorje has brought millions of people back to God. You are trying to call it a satanic mission? Wow! Then the devil is really dumb. Your attitude is proud. Go there by yourself, sister, so Our Lady can finally change your proud and lofty heart.
