Morning Catholic must-reads: 11/06/13

A daily guide to what’s happening in the Catholic Church

By on Tuesday, 11 June 2013

Cardinal Kurt Koch (CNS)

Cardinal Kurt Koch (CNS)

Cardinal Kurt Koch, president of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, has urged Catholics and Orthodox believers in Ukraine “not to lose sight of the goal of ecumenical dialogue“.

An envoy from Al-Azhar, the prestigious Sunni institution in Egypt, has urged Pope Francis “to declare that Islam is a peaceful religion“.

Rorate Caeli claims that Pope Francis has said that there is a “gay lobby” in the Roman Curia.

Researchers in America are conducting a worldwide study to discover whether Muslims or Catholics are more generous towards the poor.

The Nineteen Sixty-four blog suggests that everyone contesting the 2016 US presidential election, except Hillary Clinton, is likely to be Catholic.

Fr John Zuhlsdorf hails a priest who is using technology to draw people to Confession.

And Cardinal George Pell of Sydney insists that “don’t get angry, get even” is a pagan, not a Christian saying.

Cardinal Koch’s message was surprisingly succinct and right on the mark! Goal of ecumenism is VISIBLE COMMUNION. Nothing wishy-washy there.

Unless there is a verifiable quote or link, I give scant credence to any claims made by Rorate Caeli e.g. in a recent post RC claimed that there were several European countries without a priest and that it was being “hushed up”. Of course, when asked, by me and 2 others, to name these countries or who was hushing things up, our requests were deleted.

    CLAR confirmed the report.

Sorry, Christopher, but who is CLAR? Thanks.

Christopher. I discovered the answer to my question below but remain sceptical about Rorate Caeli’s comments on a number of issues because of incidents such as the one I mentioned previously. There is an interesting article concerning the alleged “gay lobby” comments'; it is by the well-connected and highly-respected Rocco Palmo of “Whispers”. I am attaching the link should you wish to read what he says.
