Inaugural John Henry Newman Lecture
2 May 2008

His Eminence Cardinal Walter Kasper, President of the Pontifical Council for Christian Unity, will give the first in a new series of annual lectures organised by the Catholic Halls of Oxford University on Monday, May 5.

The lecture series, sponsored by The Catholic Herald, honours and promotes John Henry Newman's vision of a rich mutuality between the Christian faith and the intellectual life: of faith as constantly seeking understanding, and of reason as perfected in faith. Distinguished speakers will explore the relationships between philosophy, science, history and theology within the modern university, and how Catholic thought can enrich contemporary culture.

Cardinal Kasper will speak on "The timeliness of speaking about God" in the Garden Quandrangle auditorium at St John's College at 5 pm. Admission is by ticket only.
