Major William McCrory of the Royal Military Police was made a Knight of St Gregory during the International Military Pilgrimage to Lourdes.
Major McCrory, known as “Bill”, has been a very active member of the Forces Catholic community throughout his Army service.
For the past 10 years he has been the organiser for the British contingent to the pilgrimage which sees thousands of servicemen and servicewomen from all over the world converge on Lourdes. Bishop of the Forces Richard Moth presented the honour.
As part of the presentation ceremony Major McCrory was invited to take the baton and conduct the Band of the Adjutant General’s Corps playing his own regimental march.
Speaking of his knighthood Major McCrory said: “It was a complete surprise. I am honoured and humbled.”
