Pope Francis will publish his first encyclical, Lumen Fidei (“The Light of Faith”), on Friday.

Benedict XVI drafted the encyclical before his retirement and Pope Francis has reworked and completed the draft.

The encyclical will focus on the subject of faith and its publication is one of the major events of the Year of Faith, which ends on November 24.

    Great news !!

    Printer at the ready…
Probably the greatest Encyclical we’ll receive for a generation [if not this century]

  • Benedict Carter

Why do you say that? I can see reasons why it might turn out to be important, but “the greatest”?

  • paulpriest

Because not in our lifetimes has a Pope spake like Benedict

I am imagining several pages of limpid, precise prose followed by the equivalent of a country fair drunken sing-song. Well, we’ll see!

Thank you, Holy Fathers, Pps Francis and his Emeritus Benedict XVI. For this is a wonderful gift to receive from the plenitude of power at the hands of the Sovereign Pontiff – regardless of its worthy contents. I feel it as if given as a personal kindness to me – and to us all – individually from their hands; there was no pressing demand on these humble servants of God to do this, only genuine, fraternal, saintly love .. a witness to the hope we all share in Christ.

    God bless our Pope!

hmmmm, there’s a rumoured Encyclical on the Liturgy in preparation too, rumouredly also commenced by Benedict XVI …

I agree but the last encyclical he shared a quill on was less than stellar because of the contributions of others. I am hoping the other three hands on this one only offered their signature.

It would be good if these documents were read. By now there are so many around the place.

..well can you see that entering the light of day?
