Dominicans' vocations director says the poster is an 'attempt to do something fresh'

A vocations poster released by the Dominicans today was inspired by album covers such as Bruce Springsteen’s Born to Run, one of its creators has said.

Fr Ciaran Dougherty OP, vocations director for the Dominicans in Ireland, said the poster was an “attempt to do something fresh”.

The black and white design, he said, was inspired not only by the distinctive habit of the Dominicans but also by “iconic” album covers such as Springsteen’s 1975 hit. The cover features Springsteen leaning against the late saxophonist Clarence Clemons, guitar in hand.

In the Dominicans’ poster – designed by Fr Dougherty and Fr Luuke Jansen – a priest stretches out an arm holding a rosary and a crucifix.

The Dominicans in Ireland are expecting four new members this year.
