The new series, titled 'The New Pope', will also star John Malkovich

Jude law is set to return in a follow-up series to The Young Pope.

The new show, dubbed The New Pope, will also star John Malkovich and will also depict a modern-day papacy.

It is unclear whether Law will reprise the role of Pope Pius XIII, as his fate was unclear at the end of the last series. In the final moments, he doubled over in pain as he was delivering a sermon and saw a vision of the Virgin Mary.

While The New Pope will retain elements of its predecessor, its creators say it will be an entirely different miniseries.

Law won Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture for TV for his role in The Young Pope.

Filming for The New Pope will start in Italy in November.
