Thoroughly surprised and disappointed by FF Armesto’s article, “The Cult of Country”, in 13.1.12 print edition.  I think I can speak for most middle-class American Catholics when I say that we would love to vote Democrat, if it wasn’t for the fact that they support abortion.  Has Mr. Armesto never heard of the “hierarchy of truths”, in which the right to life is first and foremost?  Once abortion is again illegal in our country, then we will have the freedom to vote for candidates based on other moral issues.  Armesto calls this “idiocy”, I call it our only option.
